Yes, organizing your own travel insurance is a necessity on all of our adventures. Here’s what your policy must cover:
Personal accident and death/repatriation costs
All medical and emergency including Covid-19
Cancellation: pre and post departure for all reasons including medical and Covid-19
Curtailment and delays
Baggage damage, loss or theft
All activities on the itinerary
Any pre-existing medical conditions (if applicable)
Personal Liability (optional but recommended)
We also suggest you consider getting loss of or damage to baggage coverage as well.
If you are travelling within your home country, please confirm before travel that you are covered for emergency medical care should an emergency occur.
Please remember to include any underlying health conditions in your quote, as well as extreme sports coverage if there are activities such as quad biking, sky diving, canyoning or abseiling in your itinerary. This is not an exhaustive list, please consult your insurance company for guidance on any activity you are unsure about.
If you are looking for an insurer, you may want to visit a marketplace such as Squaremouth or Insure Yonder. You may also want to consider Money Supermarket, Go Compare or Compare the Market for insurance purposes depending on your home country. Some travelers prefer Royal Mail or Colombus Insurance as well.
It’s also worth checking with your credit card company as to whether they provide the coverage listed above, just be certain they are able to provide a policy number and 24 hour emergency number. We will not be able to accept coverage without a policy number. This is required should we need to access your policy on your behalf. Some credit card companies will advise you use your card number in full so you will need to be comfortable providing this to utilize the coverage.
We will be collecting your insurer's name, 24 hour emergency number, and your policy number through the checklist in the Flash Pack app prior to your arrival so please be prepared to share this information when needed.
Please note we can not review insurance policies, you'll need to check with your insurance provider that you are covered for the above.
Is there anything else I should consider?
We recommend checking official travel advisories to see the current status of your destination, as this can help you choose insurance that's right for your trip:
UK residents: review the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Travel Advice before your adventure.
US residents: consult the US Department of State Travel Advice for important travel information.
Australian residents: check the Smart Traveler website for up-to-date travel advice.
Residents of other countries: refer to the travel advice provided by your own government or local consulate.
When reviewing travel advisories, it's helpful to:
Note your destination's current advisory level
Check that your insurance policy covers travel to destinations at that level
Travel conditions can change before departure, so stay updated with the latest information to ensure your insurance remains appropriate for your journey.
