Extra Nights

Find answers to our most frequently asked questions about booking extra nights, from choosing where to stay to transfers, room arrangements and extending your adventure, so you can plan with confidence.

Written by Flash Pack

Many Flashpackers choose to extend their trip before or after the official itinerary. It can be a great way to recover from jet lag, explore independently or simply give yourself a little more time in your destination.

Planning extra nights? Once your departure is guaranteed, you can find the names of the hotels you’ll be staying at in the itinerary section of the Flash Pack app. You can then use these details to book any additional nights you need directly with the hotel or through your preferred booking platform. We don’t book extra nights on your behalf, unless specifically stated otherwise in the Adventure FAQs on your trip’s webpage.

Can Flash Pack book extra hotel nights for me?

Generally, no. You’ll need to arrange and pay for any additional nights yourself, either:

  • directly with the hotel; or

  • through your preferred third-party booking platform.

There are a small number of adventures where extra nights work differently for logistical reasons, and we might advise that you book a different hotel to the official starting one if you're arriving early. If this applies to your trip, we’ll explain it in the Adventure FAQs on your trip webpage.

How do I find out which hotel my trip starts or ends at?

Once your departure is guaranteed (learn more about our departure statuses here), you can find your trip hotels in the itinerary section of the Flash Pack app.

This includes the starting and ending hotels, allowing you to arrange additional nights yourself if you’d like to extend your stay.

If your departure isn’t guaranteed yet, hotel details may not be available.

Should I book my extra night at the same hotel as Flash Pack?

You don’t have to, but many travelers find this the easiest option.

Staying at the starting hotel before your trip means you’ll already be in the right place when the adventure begins. Similarly, staying at the final hotel can make extending your trip after particularly straightforward.

You’re completely free to choose a different hotel if you’d prefer somewhere that better suits your budget, preferences or travel plans.

The starting hotel is sold out for the dates I need. What are my options?

No problem – you can book another hotel that suits your preferences and budget.

We recommend choosing somewhere reasonably close to the Flash Pack starting hotel, as you’ll need to make your own way there in time for the start of your adventure on Day 1.

Please note that if the starting hotel is showing as sold out for the dates you need, we’re unable to secure additional availability on your behalf.

Can Flash Pack recommend an alternative hotel?

We’re only able to recommend hotels that have been used for Flash Pack groups and vetted by our Customer Safety team against our minimum health and safety standards.

If you choose to stay at a different hotel before or after your adventure, you’re welcome to select whichever option best suits your location, budget and preferences, but we won’t be able to recommend or endorse a property that hasn’t been through this process.

We recommend checking recent guest reviews, the hotel’s facilities and location, and its cancellation terms carefully before booking.

If I stay somewhere else before the trip, can I still use my included airport transfer?

It depends. If the Flash Pack starting hotel isn’t available, we can usually arrange your included arrival transfer to your alternative hotel.

You’ll need to email [email protected] with the name and address of the hotel you've booked so we can arrange this.

Please remember that you’ll then be responsible for making your own way from your hotel to the Flash Pack starting hotel on Day 1.

If you choose to stay elsewhere for any other reason, you’ll need to arrange your own airport transfer.

If I book an extra night at the Flash Pack starting hotel, is my airport transfer still included?

Yes.

When completing your onboarding checklist, select: “I have booked extra nights at the starting hotel and would like a transfer.”

We’ll then arrange your included arrival transfer based on the flight details you provide – there’s no need to email us separately.

Can I access a Flash Pack discounted rate for extra nights?

No. We don't have special Flash Pack rates available for independently booked pre- or post-trip nights.

You’ll need to book using a publicly available rate directly with the hotel or through your preferred third-party booking platform.

Can Flash Pack add my extra night to the group hotel booking?

No. Unless your trip's Adventure FAQs specifically state otherwise, extra nights are separate from your Flash Pack booking and need to be arranged directly by you.

This also means any changes, cancellations or refunds relating to your extra-night reservation will need to be discussed with the hotel or booking provider you used.

Could the Flash Pack hotel change after I've booked my extra night?

Occasionally.

On approximately 5% of our trips, the starting or ending hotel may change, sometimes up to 30 days before departure.

For this reason, if you're booking extra accommodation more than 30 days before your trip, we strongly recommend choosing a flexible or refundable rate wherever possible.

In the event of a hotel change more than 30 days pre-departure, Flash Pack cannot cover cancellation or amendment charges associated with independently booked accommodation.

Will I be able to stay in the same room when my Flash Pack trip begins?

It depends on your booking.

If you’ve booked a single room for your Flash Pack adventure – or are travelling with a friend or partner and sharing a twin room – and independently book an extra night at the same hotel, the hotel may be able to keep you in the same room, provided the room types match. However, room allocations are managed by the hotel and cannot be guaranteed.

If you’re being matched with another Flashpacker in a twin room during your adventure but have booked a private room for your pre-night, you should expect to check out of your pre-night room on the morning of Day 1. Your twin room may not be available until the hotel’s normal check-in time.

The hotel can normally store your luggage in the meantime.

Can you ask the hotel to link my extra-night reservation to my Flash Pack booking?

We can’t guarantee that separate reservations will be linked or that you’ll remain in the same room.

If you've booked directly with the same hotel, you may wish to contact them before arrival and let them know that you’ll also be staying as part of a Flash Pack group. They can make a note of this, although room continuity will remain subject to availability and the hotel’s room allocations.

We recommend checking with the hotel when you arrive to see whether your bookings have been linked. If not, they may still be able to adjust the room allocation at that stage, subject to availability.

Can I check in early if my flight arrives in the morning?

Early check-in isn’t included as part of your Flash Pack booking and we're not able to arrange early check-in arrangements with our hotels.

If you’re arriving early and want guaranteed access to a room, you may want to consider booking the previous night yourself. If you’re travelling on a twin-share basis, bear in mind that you may need to check out of this separately booked room at the hotel’s standard check-out time before moving into your Flash Pack room later that day. If you’re only arriving a few hours before check-out, booking an additional night may therefore not be worthwhile.

Otherwise, hotels can often store your luggage until your room is ready, allowing you to head out and explore. This is subject to the individual hotel’s facilities and policies, so it’s worth checking with them directly.

If the hotel isn’t able to store your bags, you could also look for a nearby left-luggage service. Apps and websites such as Bounce, Stasher and LuggageHero allow you to search for short-term luggage storage at local hotels, shops and other venues. These services are independently operated, so availability, pricing and terms will vary by destination.

What happens if I book my extra night through a third-party website?

Your reservation will be entirely separate from your Flash Pack booking and will be subject to the booking provider’s own terms and conditions.

Flash Pack isn't responsible for independently booked accommodation, including cancellations, refunds, room types, booking errors or changes made by the hotel or booking platform.

We therefore recommend checking the cancellation conditions carefully before booking.

Can I stay somewhere completely different before or after my trip?

Absolutely. Your time outside the official Flash Pack itinerary is yours to plan.

You don’t need to stay at the Flash Pack hotel and are welcome to choose accommodation elsewhere in the destination.

If you're staying somewhere different before your adventure, just make sure you allow enough time to reach the Flash Pack starting hotel for the beginning of the trip.

What time do I need to be at the starting hotel on Day 1?

Check your Flash Pack itinerary for details of your first planned activity or welcome meeting.

Exact timings may sometimes be confirmed by your Pack Leader closer to departure, so we recommend avoiding plans on Day 1 that could make it difficult to reach the starting hotel in time.

What if I arrive later than the recommended arrival time on Day 1?

That’s usually fine, but depending on when you arrive, you may need to join the group partway through the Day 1 plans – for example, at dinner or during a scheduled activity.

If you miss the welcome meeting, don’t worry. Your Pack Leader will make sure you’re brought up to speed on any important information you missed once you join the group.

We strongly recommend avoiding arrival later than Day 1 wherever possible. From Day 2 onwards, the group may already have moved on to a different hotel, destination or activity, which can make joining the adventure significantly more complicated.

If you do choose to arrive after Day 1, you’ll be responsible for making your own way to wherever the group is at that point, as well as covering any additional transport, accommodation or other costs involved in catching up with them.

If you know in advance that you’ll be arriving late, please let us know so we can advise on the best way to join the group.

What happens if I’m extending my stay after the trip?

You're welcome to book additional accommodation at the final Flash Pack hotel or anywhere else you'd prefer.

Unless your itinerary specifically says otherwise (check the Adventure FAQs on your trip webpage), departure airport transfers are not included, so you’ll need to arrange your onward transport independently.

On trips where a group departure transfer is included, it’s only available on the final day of the scheduled itinerary. If you stay in the area where your trip ends for extra nights, you’ll need to arrange your own transfer to the airport.

Alternatively, you can take the included group departure transfer on the final day and then stay in the city where the airport is located.

Your Pack Leader or hotel team can usually help with local transport options during your trip.
