How does rooming work?

All our adventures are priced on the basis of sharing a twin room, and around 75% of Flashpackers choose to do so. It’s one of the fastest ways to connect with your fellow travellers – and even the most apprehensive first-timers often tell us they’re glad they gave it a go.

That said, we understand sharing isn’t for everyone. Most of our adventures offer the option to upgrade to a single room for an additional cost. These are limited in number and tend to fill up quickly, so we recommend booking early to avoid missing out. You can do this at checkout, or request a single room here if you’ve already booked.

How are roommates matched?

We put a lot of care into this. From the moment you book, we begin getting to know you – starting with your answers to our Personalisation and Rooming questionnaire. This includes details about your sleep preferences, habits and general likes and dislikes. We use this to pair you with a like-minded Flashpacker of the same passport gender.

Roommates are revealed at check-in, and while we’re pretty great at what we do – with an average score of 8.6/10 for our rooming matches over the past year – we know it’s not an exact science. That’s why we keep things flexible. If you’d like to switch roommates after the first night or two, you’re very welcome to do so, as long as it’s handled respectfully and with everyone’s agreement.

If I don't pay for a single room, will I always have a roommate?

Usually, yes. But now and then, group numbers don’t divide perfectly – which means a Flashpacker might end up in a twin room alone for part (or all) of the trip. In some cases, the Pack Leader may rotate single occupancy across the group, either at their discretion or with the group’s agreement.

If you’d prefer a guaranteed single room for the full adventure, this must be arranged in advance – we’re unable to make this change once the trip is underway.

Can I book a single room for just some nights?

We’re only able to offer single rooms for the full duration of your adventure. That’s because we’d still need to hold your space in the twin room and wouldn’t be able to allocate it to anyone else.

If you decide during the trip that you’d benefit from a solo night or two, you’re welcome to speak directly to your Pack Leader, who can check availability with the hotel. Any additional cost would be your responsibility, and it wouldn’t reduce the price already paid for your twin room.
