Do I need to purchase travel insurance?

Yes – adequate travel insurance is mandatory and forms part of your contract with us. You're responsible for arranging personal travel insurance that covers you for the full duration of your trip.

We strongly recommend checking for any exclusions that could limit cover for the types of activities on your itinerary. You should ensure the policy suits your personal needs, including any supplementary insurance if required.

What does my insurance need to cover?

Your policy must include:

  • Personal accident, death, and repatriation

  • All medical and emergency expenses, including Covid-19 (this is usually included as standard these days)

  • Trip cancellation (before and after departure), including for medical reasons

  • Trip curtailment and delays

  • Baggage damage, loss or theft

  • All activities listed in your itinerary

  • Any pre-existing medical conditions (if applicable)

  • Personal liability (optional but recommended)

The above all tend to be fairly standard inclusions in most policies.

If you are travelling within your home country, please confirm before travel that you are covered for emergency medical care should an emergency occur.

Please remember to include any underlying health conditions in your quote, as well as extreme sports coverage if there are activities such as quad biking, sky diving, canyoning or abseiling in your itinerary. This is not an exhaustive list, please consult your insurance company for guidance on any activity you are unsure about.

For insurance providers, you can check out marketplaces such as Squaremouth or Insure Yonder (US customers) and Compare the Market or MoneySuperMarket (UK customers) as they have a comparison tool to help find coverage that'll work best for your adventure. Similar sites should be available if you're from elsewhere.

It’s also worth checking with your credit card company as to whether they provide the coverage listed above, just be certain they are able to provide a policy number and 24 hour emergency number. We will not be able to accept coverage without a policy number. This is required should we need to access your policy on your behalf. Some credit card companies will advise you use your card number in full so you will need to be comfortable providing this to utilize the coverage.

We will be collecting your insurer's name, 24-hour medical assist phone number, and your policy number through the checklist in the Flash Pack app prior to your arrival so please be prepared to share this information when needed.

Please note that as we are not insurance experts ourselves, we cannot review insurance policies on your behalf. If you wish to make sure that a policy meets our requirements, you should speak to an advisor from the insurance provider.

Is there anything else I should consider?

We recommend checking official travel advisories to see the current status of your destination, as this can help you choose insurance that's right for your trip:

When reviewing travel advisories, it's helpful to:

  • Note your destination's current advisory level

  • Check that your insurance policy covers travel to destinations at that level

Travel conditions can change before departure, so stay updated with the latest information to ensure your insurance remains appropriate for your journey.

Can I use my credit card insurance?

Yes – provided it meets all Flash Pack’s requirements and gives you adequate coverage.

You must have access to:

  • A policy number (this may be your card number or part of it – you'll need to check with your provider)

  • An emergency contact number

We cannot accept any policy that doesn’t include a policy number.

When should I buy travel insurance?

You should arrange insurance as soon as you’ve paid in full for your adventure or booked your flights.

Be aware that many policies don’t take effect for 24 hours – so you may not be covered immediately after purchase.

Do I need to provide proof of insurance?

Yes – it’s mandatory. You’ll be asked to enter your insurer’s name, policy number and emergency contact number in the Onboarding Checklist in the Flash Pack app.

If you hold multiple policies (for example, one through your employer and another via your credit card), please make sure to provide the details of the policy that specifically covers medical travel insurance abroad, as this is a key requirement for your trip.

If you can’t provide proof, you’ll need to purchase a valid policy before you travel.

Can I buy insurance through Flash Pack?

We don’t sell travel insurance directly – we want you to be free to choose the policy that suits you best.
